Coaching and Co-Authoring
Are yo being called to write a novel, memoir, or non-fiction book, even though writing is not your strongest suit? Then you may be looking for a coach or co-author.
My coaching clients do most or all of their own writing. I provide encouragement, guidance, and feedback through regular meetings and content review. You can begin a coaching relationship with me at the very beginning of your writing process, or anytime you decide your book project needs an expert on board.
My co-author clients can do as little or as much of their own writing as works for them. The story or information in the book is their own, and I provide the writing skills to make it happen. This generally works better when you involve me early in the process, but I have had authors with a partially complete manuscript bring me in to co-author the rest.
Substantive/Developmental Editing
This is a deep level of editing that will give you feedback on the structure, flow, and logic of your book. For example, you might be writing a detailed guide on a complex topic. Substantive editing can give you feedback on how to arrange your sections, whether your transitions are smooth and effective, and whether you are explaining the topic clearly.
Generally I would recommend that after your substantive edits, we go through a round of copy editing (see next).
Copy Editing
This is “mid-level” editing, and covers checking your book for any errors in grammar, syntax, spelling, word use, and so on.
Proofreading
This is the least intensive kind of editing, and is just a final check for typographical errors, formatting inconsistencies, etc. I rarely take on proofreading-only projects, but I proofread by default when I am performing any kind of edit.
